How to make a printable calendar

  1. 1

Choose a layout: the whole year on one page, one month, or all 12 months as a 12-page PDF.

  2. 2

Set the year and month, or pick a range that starts in August or September for a school year.

  3. 3

Add US or UK holidays, choose Sunday or Monday as the first day of the week, and turn on week numbers if you use them.

  4. 4

Pick a heading color, click Download PDF and print at 100% (actual size).

Features

  • Year, month or 12 pages

A one-page year to pin up, a single month with big boxes to write in, or a full 12-month PDF for a binder or wall.

  • Holidays on the right day

US federal holidays on the day they are observed, and UK bank holidays for England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

  • See it as you change it

The page preview redraws with every setting: week start, week numbers, paper size, orientation and color.

  • Free, made on your device

No sign-up and no watermark. The PDF is drawn in your browser as crisp vector lines and downloads straight away.

Printing your calendar

The calendar is a vector PDF sized exactly for Letter (8.5 × 11 in) or A4 paper, so it prints sharp at any size of handwriting. In the print dialog choose Actual size or 100% rather than "Fit to page", and match the orientation: the year on one page fits best in landscape (four months across, three down) and also comes in portrait (three across, four down). Month pages in landscape give wide boxes for a desk or fridge; portrait gives taller boxes that suit a binder or a clipboard.

For a wall calendar, download the 12 months PDF, print it single-sided, and staple or clip the pages at the top. Each month page shows small calendars of the months before and after, so you can plan across the change of month without flipping pages.

US federal holidays, 2026 to 2028

The US holidays are the 11 federal holidays in 5 U.S.C. 6103, the list the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) publishes each year, including Juneteenth National Independence Day (since 2021). Dates are shown when they are observed: a holiday on a Saturday is taken on the Friday before, one on a Sunday on the Monday after, marked with an asterisk.

*Observed on a weekday because the date itself falls on a weekend. Banks, schools and private employers set their own days off, and many states add holidays of their own, so check your school district or employer calendar too.

UK bank holidays

UK calendars use the bank holidays published by GOV.UK for England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. GOV.UK lists them up to 2028; later years follow the usual rules, including substitute days when a holiday falls on a weekend, but can't include one-off holidays that haven't been announced yet. Scotland has 2 January and St Andrew's Day but no Easter Monday, and takes its summer bank holiday on the first Monday of August; Northern Ireland adds St Patrick's Day and the Battle of the Boyne on 12 July. Easter moves every year, and with it Good Friday and Easter Monday:

School-year calendars

Most US schools start in August or just after Labor Day (Sep 6 in 2027) and finish in May or June, so a January-to-December calendar splits the year in two. Choose August to July or September to August in the Months list to get the whole school year on one page, with the holidays of both calendar years marked. Teachers often print the one-page school year for the classroom wall and the 12 month pages for a lesson-planning binder, writing in testing windows, conferences and breaks from the district calendar.

Week numbers, explained

Week numbers are common in European offices, schools and project plans ("the deadline is week 14"). This calendar uses the ISO 8601 standard: weeks run from Monday to Sunday, and week 1 is the week that contains the year's first Thursday, which is the same as the week containing January 4. That is why the first days of January can belong to the last week of the year before. For example, January 1, 2027 is a Friday, so it falls in week 53 of 2026, and week 1 of 2027 starts on Monday, Jan 4. A year has 53 weeks when it starts on a Thursday, or on a Wednesday in a leap year.

Frequently asked questions

How do I print the calendar so it fits the page?

Open the PDF and print it at "Actual size" or 100% scale, on the same paper size you chose (Letter or A4). Make sure the orientation in the print dialog matches the calendar: most month and year calendars here are landscape. Every calendar keeps a half-inch margin, so nothing is cut off on ordinary printers.

Which US holidays are on the calendar?

The 11 federal holidays set by law in 5 U.S.C. 6103: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington's Birthday (Presidents' Day), Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. They are shown on the day federal offices close, so a holiday on a Saturday moves to the Friday before and one on a Sunday to the Monday after.

Why is New Year's Day sometimes on December 31?

When January 1 falls on a Saturday, federal employees get the Friday before off, which is December 31 of the previous year. That happens for New Year's Day 2028, so a 2027 calendar with US holidays shows "New Year's Day (observed)" on Friday, December 31, 2027.

Does it include Easter, Mother's Day or school breaks?

Only official days off are printed: US federal holidays or UK bank holidays. Easter Sunday, Mother's Day and Halloween are not federal holidays, and school breaks differ by district, so the day boxes are left free for you to write them in. UK calendars do show Good Friday and Easter Monday, which are bank holidays.

What are week numbers?

Week numbers count the weeks of the year from 1 to 52 or 53. This calendar uses the ISO 8601 standard used across Europe: weeks run Monday to Sunday and week 1 is the week with the year's first Thursday in it. With Sunday starts, each row shows the number of the week its Monday belongs to.

Can I make a calendar for the school year?

Yes. With "Whole year" or "12 months", open the Months list and pick August or September as the first month. You get August to July (or September to August) on one page, or as 12 month pages, with the holidays of both years.

Can I type on the calendar?

The PDF is made for printing and writing on by hand, so it has no form fields. You can still add notes on a computer with any PDF editor that lets you add text boxes.
